Happy Holidays!!!

quilted bags

Happy Holidays everyone!!!  I’m currently taking a nice break for the holidays…that’s why you didn’t see me posting much lately. In addition to that, I’ve been doing something else than beads… a long time ago, before I got the beading bug, I used to sew. Nothing fancy, just clothes for the girls and accessories. Well, I collected a lot of fabric during those years and as I was looking for the Christmas ornaments, I found some of it and made a couple of bags for my daughter’s new nintendo ds.

What else have I been doing? Well, I’ve been wanting to make a spiral crochet scarf but didn’t know how. I had seen it before and didn’t know the name so I searched on the internet and found it!!! I went to my local yarn store and bought this gorgeous mohair yarn (kidsilk haze) made by Rowan and knitted it. I love the way it turned out!

Just a few beads…

I finally managed to make a few beads despite this cold weather…Three of the focal beads pictured above are custom orders for pendants.  The beads below are my early Valentines…

Trying something new…

polymer clay fish Christi Friesen style

Back in November when I took the fused glass class at the BABE show, I wandered into the other classrooms to see the other workshops and found a wonderful polymer clay artist named Christi Friesen. She was teaching how to make a mermaid that seemed quite complicated to me…. and then I saw the students’ work and was very impressed by the results so I purchased a copy of her “Under the sea” book to try it at home. I was thinking I could follow the directions and try it for our school art project. As soon as my daughter saw the book, she read it entirely and was eager to make some of the pieces so I finally purchased clay and took the time to try it out…so the pictures show our result. My daughter’s seahorse is the one on the right and her fish is the one on the left. Didn’t she do a wonderful job??? I sure think so!!!! And she’s only 7 years old!!! We’ve made holes in them as we want to make a mother/daughter sea inspired necklace later on….after making the turtles and starfish.

And the winner is….

drum roll….Michelle C.   She has won the pendant displayed above.  Congratulations Michelle!  Please send me your address so I can send your bead!

On the bead front, the past week has been awfully cold so I didn’t dare to light up the torch because my studio was freezing.  I’m still working on custom orders and hopefully will catch up this weekend (weather permitting).
